Downtown Mountain View in Motion

Date:

April 2025 - Present

Client:

City of Mountain View

Audience:

Mountain View Residents and Visitors

Starting in the early 2020s, the City of Mountain View, CA began efforts to revitalize their downtown space, transforming it into a center for businesses, gathering, and events for locals and visitors. The city contracted with my team and I to officially put a name and a brand to their development initiative.

My production team included two of my coworkers handling copywriting and client communication while my co-designer and I were the head designers.

We modeled the logo after a new public art project they had completed along Castro Street in their downtown area and themed the name after the movement both the art project and the city's development projects conveyed: Downtown Mountain View in Motion.

The brand we themed after their main city brand guide - evolving it to match with the client's newly-commissioned public art. The goal was to bridge the gap between the more corporate feel of the city's materials and the lively, organic public art downtown.

After establishing the new brand, we developed way-finding and fence signage for construction sites, window wraps for empty storefronts, and merchandise for events - further evolving the downtown brand for Super Bowl LX and FIFA World Cup events in 2026. My co-designer and I even hand-painted planters lining Castro Street to match the brand!

This overarching campaign is ongoing and has been very reactive to local events and needs, often requiring that my co-designer or I generate a print file for new swag items or signs day-of the request. Consequently, attention to communication within our team and being proactive about any perceived need has been vital with creating products that our client not only loves, but receives on time for their events.
